Celebrities react to Charterhouse taking back awards given to Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale

concerned Ghanaians, consisting mainly of fans of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale and some industry players, have taken a swipe at Charterhouse for indefinitely banning Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

They are doing so through a trending hashtag on Twitter, #ReturnOurMoney.

The awards organisation at a press conference earlier announced its decision to ban Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale from its event following last week’s scuffle that ensued between the two parties. Charterhouse also said it will take back the awards won by the two acts.

They were adjudged some awards including Highlife Song of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year and others they couldn’t get due to the brawl.

Fans voted for their favourite artistes to win the respective awards and one celebrity who couldn’t fathom why Charterhouse would rip them of their awards is rapper Criss Waddle.

According to him and trends on twitter, most Ghanaians are asking telecommunications company, Vodafone to return the monies they used in voting if they have truly decided to collect the plaques back.

“Taking back your awards is okay only after you give back their fans voting money and transport money they wasted,” he said.

In another post sighted, Sammy Forson waded into the conversation and registered similar assertions.

He said: “In order to give music lovers some closure, I think the VGMA Board should have still announced who won the last two awards regardless of them being banned and stripped of the awards won. People spent money voting… My thoughts though…”

Rapper Guru couldn’t hold his comment back as he tagged Charterhouse’s conclusion as a “very harsh decision!”

Bridget Otoo had this to say in the #returnourmoney:

“@CharterhouseGH if the votes from the Board and Academy are that important and they override public/fans vote then why ask the public to vote? Is it just to get traffic for your sponsor @VodafoneGhana? #ReturnOurMoney?”

According to Comedian DKB, he thinks it was a rushed decision and taking the awards back isn’t the right way forward.

His stress was what if the two acts decided to collect monies from Charterhouse for using their brand to promote their scheme.

As it stands now, Shatta Wale has made the decision to forgo the Ghana Music Awards scheme in the coming years.
